PyOS is an orbital mechanics simulator, written entirely in Python on top of the Panda3D engine.
It was created for a computer science class at PCSI Déodat de Séverac in Toulouse, and was heavily inspired by Universe Sandbox, a game by Giant Army. It was meant to become a sandbox space game and is now archived.
Where it got to
The last version, 0.10 alpha, has a new menu with 3D animations. The next goal was realistic impact particles, using the Panda3D particle generator, which would have paved the way for a proper heads-up display. 3D models can be imported and used in simulations, but there is no syntax guide, so it is hard to master. The project also reports its state through Discord rich presence.
Running it
Releases come as an archive with an executable that needs nothing else installed. To run the code itself, you need Python with Panda3D and pypresence.
The authors call the project officially dead and buried, and thank everyone whose feedback helped during development.
