Dakar
Senegal
After prospecting for a couple days and running from one port to another, from peer to peer, and between bars, I end up figuring out that no amount of contacts will get me a ride in this season.
The current winds and hurricanes do not allow for a transatlantic travel by sailboat, and the cargo ships are not very willing to take passengers onboard.
After meeting with the chief of the harbour control tower in Dakar, and discussing ideas around an iced coffee, I came to the conclusion that it might be wise to book a flight just in case.
As far as cargo ships go, very few would be willing to accept a non-qualified member of crew and I'd have to wait at least a month and a half for that.
Therefore, I decided to book a flight to manaus on the 18th and finished visiting Senegal while waiting.
Back in the capital for merely a day, I got to meet again with my German friends from Guerguerat!
We were initially planning on visiting the island of Gorée, but the crowd at the port as well as our poor planning made me bail on it, since I had to get to the airport before 10 PM.
I did spend the evening at the arts village of Dakar, a beautiful, green and calm area where painters, sculptors and other artists display their work 🖌️
