Nouadhibou
Mauritania
Quite a peculiar city, with no well-defined, traditional city center, and interesting no addresses.
When shipping something there, you'd usually just indicate the district, and the person would have to go to the post office directly to fetch the letter.
In all honesty, not an interesting city, but I stayed there to catch the train to the East, and it gave me some time to meet some locals and gather up some information about the political situation there.
Here I am waiting for a train with no precise time schedule. The Nouadhibou-Zouérat iron ore train Is one of the longest in the world; it transports iron ore from the Northeast part of the country to the northwestmost city, Nouadhibou.
A lot of locals use it to get through the Sahel more directly, since there are no roads that connect Nouadhibou and Choum directly, forcing you to take a costly detour through Nouakchott. Its legendary name "Train du désert" made me consider staying a bit longer to experience it 🚂
I'm hoping to get some good pictures, and to meet some friends who'll be travelling through the desert too, in their case starting form Nouakchott, further south!
