A cute little village next to the delta of the Saloum River.
I was initially planning on staying in Joal for the night, but the guide who took me in while I was hitchhiking recommended this place and even offered to arrange accommodation for me. The little houses are absolutely adorable and make for a great reading spot on the terrace during the heavy rains.
I am hoping to get an even better view of the delta tomorrow morning with a quick hop in a pirogue.
The day of my return to Dakar, I figured I could make a quick jump to one of the small towns located on the islands of the Delta, specifically Mar Lothie (pronounced "mar lodj").
The boats are all painted bright, with motives similar to the ones I saw in the Nouakchott and Saint-Louis fishing harbours; this cultural aspect seems common to most of the western part of the Sahel.
The ride is soothing, with some occasional tropical rain forcing us to get under a large plastic sheet which the pirogue captain deploys.
An extremely calm, and rather clean village, with some beautiful beaches, small houses, as well as a couple resorts on the coast.
A nice lady who rode the pirogue with me took me onto her horse carriage, which got me from the harbour to the town. The ride is bumpy but quite entertaining!
There is an immense amount of piglets roaming around the town freely, they are so cute!
Back to the docks after a couple hours having drinks with a view and some snacks in Mar Lodj, it's time to pack up and leave towards Dakar now.
