Medellín
Colombia
Medellín? Honestly, yes, for the history and political influence, but living there? Never.
It's pricey, and a bit unauthentic: the brutal turn that happened in the last 20 years from hardcore criminality and cartel gun violence to the new, tourist-first industry has made this city unaffordable. Some comunas frankly feel like US neighborhoods, with Starbucks at every corner and hipstery restaurants everywhere.
I think it was worth the stop, but I wouldn't stay there longer than three or four days.
Change of plans here, I had to cut short my trip due to an emergency I had to tackle in New York, so I'll be flying out of Bogotá next week. Stay tuned!
