Quito
Ecuador
Really excited to be discovering the capital of Ecuador, especially since I'll be staying with the family of a friend I made in Senegal (who might even be reading this right now, since he's on Polarsteps too).
It's a bustling city, surrounded by mountains and valleys that give a unique high-altitude charm to the colonial architecture. I was impressed and pleasantly surprised by the modernity of the infrastructure, including the brand-new subway system, the business district, and the relative cleanliness of the streets.
The altitude (2900 m, up to 3300 m above sea level in the highest areas) did not bother me at all, which was great since we walked around so much. The sun, however, burned my lips pretty badly 😭
I am very thankful for my hosts, who were absolutely wonderful and helped me truly discover the city in depth 🫶
