Sadly my e-visa for Mauritania is taking some time to get approved, and I still feel a bit sick, so I've decided to stay here until I can cross the border safely and legally. On paper, this should allow my body to rest and heal, and me to explore the surroundings if I feel like it!
Update, 5 post arrival: the Mauritanian immigration authorities are completely incompetent and messed up my file on their systems, I have to redo everything all over again, morale is very low...
Update, 8 days post arrival: it turns out they mistyped my passport number, so the evisa was available all along, but I couldn't find it. This is just bullshit, I lost so much time here!
Luckily I had a contact in Mauritania who helped me speed things up, for free (beware of scammers who'll ask you to pay extremely high fees for their services).
I have never been so excited to leave a town in my life, Mauritania here I come (I am so glad this will be my one and only experience with e-visas during this trip).
The bus station layout was a tad confusing, everyone says different things about the time and location of departure, so I ended up going to the biggest one, and caught the bus on time.
A quick pit stop to buy water and food, the sun is still low, no sandstorm in sight
