Benjamin Constant
Brazil
Seven days later, our ship reaches the point where the Javary River merges into the Amazon. The original plan was to head straight to Tabatinga, but the crew is now considering a detour through Benjamin Constant. That would cost us an extra day and force me to reschedule my already booked hostel.
The hesitation comes from concerns that this particular branch of the river may be too shallow for us to pass.
As if to prove the point, we come across a much larger ship stuck in the middle of the delta and help move it out of the way. The roar and fumes of the engines make the whole scene feel far more dramatic than it really is.
After several minutes of mechanical struggle, the bigger passenger ship breaks free from its sand prison, and we are told to board it, since it will get us to Tabatinga quicker (this one won't go to Benjamin Constant, it wasn't able to even make it through the entrance of the canal).
I'm happy about the sudden upgrade!
