Santa Clotilde
Peru
These remote regions of the Amazon are known for being unsafe at night, with pirates occasionally halting ships and robbing passengers. Our boat therefore has to stop in Santa Clotilde for the night. This feels very far-westy, but it allows me to rest and resupply in a local pharmacy, so I'm not complaining!
The town is honestly worth it, very quiet and cozy with just enough infrastructure to not feel completely lost, including even a hospital.
I'm renting a room for 20 soles, less than 5 euros. It's no luxury but it is cheap and fair, and I feel safer than on our small boat in the middle of the night.
